The Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) , Hadiza Bala Usman has implored the workforce to reward the organisation’s efforts at upgrading the ultra modern Sports Complex in Lagos with increased dedication to duty.
The Managing Director, while declaring open the Olympic standard sporting facility said: “I, like every member of the Management team of the Authority to feel a sense of accomplishment on the commissioning of this beautiful sports complex, a promise we made at the beginning of our tenure.
‘’Our expectation is for the workforce to reward these gestures and investments in human capital development by the Authority with increased dedication to duty and loyalty to the organization
‘’We knew from the outset that we would commit ourselves to the transformation of the NPA and that in achieving this, our human resource must be well motivated. In addition to improving the health and welfare of our staff, we understand that sporting activities are also ways of encouraging the workforce to work harmoniously for the growth of the organization.
‘’This realization caused us to commit ourselves to giving a face-lift to this facility. I am happy that this dream is today, a reality, according to her.
The Managing Director after the brief but colourful commissioning ceremony went ahead to kick off the 2019 edition of the Nigerian Ports Sports Association Games (NIPOSA), a yearly event that was resuscitated by the current NPA Management in 2018, after 17 years in the doldrums.
She commended the Authority’s workforce for returning excellent performance including winning laurels, at sporting competitions within and outside the industry.
She specifically acknowledged the wonderful performance of the Authority’s representatives at the last edition of the Maritime Cup, where the football team lifted the coveted trophy, after ten attempts.
Also at the last Federation of Public and Civil Service Games (FEPSGA), the Authority’s contingent placed fourth on the overall medals table, at a meet where sixty-one Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) participated.
Hadiza Bala Usman charged all participants at the 2019 games to compete fairly and responsibly. According to her, “regardless of who takes home the trophy, we will always remain one big happy family. My advice to all competing athletes is to play by the rules, be magnanimous in victory and gallant in defeat,” she said.
Ther newly upgraded ultra-modern sports complex in Lagos is capable of hosting events that include Lawn Tennis, Basketball, Football, Swimming, Track and Field, alongside traditional indoor games.
The 2019 edition of the NIPOSA games holds from 2nd to 5th October 2019.
