Alhaji Usman Kankara, Kanwan Katsina III
The various contributions of Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara, the Kanwan Katsina III, when he served in the Nigerian Customs Service and as the District Head of Ketare , made the Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to honour him , along side the prominent indigenes of the State during, its Press Week and Award Night.
The award night which was part of a week-long activity of the Union was held at Banquet Hall, Old Government House, Katsina.
The NUJ recognized Alhaji Kankara as a good ambassador of Katsina State, during his thirty five years with the Nigeria Customs, during which he received a letter of commendation from the Katsina State government in 2000, when the Late Umaru Yar’adua was Governor,
Also honoured at the occasion was Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari among other personalities in the State.
Alhaji Kankara served as Customs Area Controller in Kano, Jigawa, Sokkoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and FCT Abuja where he improved the revenue generation to the coffers of the Federal Government.
The Kanwan Katsina finally retired at Port-Harcourt, Rivers state where he served as Controller of Marine Command of the Customs which covers Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Cross Rivers States.
He is an alumnus of the prestigious Nigeria Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, near Jos where he earns the mni award.
During his service days with the Nigeria Customs, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara also served as Public Relation Officer for ten years , during which he received an award of the best PRO of Customs.
He was known to be a very courteous PRO who developed a very cordial and smooth relationship with members of the Press which made him to attract very mature and positive publicity for the Customs. Alhaji Kankara was also in good stead with other stakeholders of the Customs.
As a District Head, Alhaji Kankara has contributed immensely to the socio-economic activities of people of his domain in the areas of health, education and agriculture. He is among the front runners in the peace initiatives of the Katsina State Government, between Fulani herdsmen and farmers, led by Governor Masari.
