IMO BUILDINGAn  ITF -drafted resolution at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has led to an initiative to increase the number of women working in the maritime sector.

Last week, the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA International) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the IMO, off the back of the ITF resolution that commits IMO members to creating a barrier-free environment for women in maritime.

WISTA International covers female workers in all sectors of the maritime industry, from seafarers to lawyers, through to workers in national administration and more.

The MOU commits IMO members to provide women seafarers with training opportunities, graduate-level education scholarships, more management-level jobs and more jobs at sea.
