The Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Ghebreyesus has lauded the Madagascar efforts in the discovery and production of the COVID 19 Organics – touted as  a preventive and curative syrup for the COVID 19 Pandemic, and for  contributing  to checking the spread of the disease.

Madagascan President, Andry Rajoelina, who made this known via Twitter yesterday, said he held a virtual meeting with Ghebreyesus over  the COVID Organics, adding that  the WHO DG expressed its support for the clinical observation of the ‘tonic’ touted as cure for coronavirus.

Rajoelina  said the meeting followed the invitation by WHO to register the drug for clinical trials, adding that his country would prove the effectiveness of the COVID Organics.

He said, “Successful exchange took place  with Tedros who commends Madagascar’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19 and congratulates us for the discovery of COVID Organics.

“WHO will sign a confidentiality clause on its formulation and will support the clinical observations process in Africa.”

It will be recalled  that Madagascar  sent consignments of the herbal drug said to have been  made from Artemisia annua to African nations. With the consignment for the West African countries sent to Guinea Bissau , from where Nigeria took delivery of its portion at the weekend.

Nigeria’s President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), received the consignment apportioned to Nigeria from President Umaro Embaló of Guinea Bissau on Saturday, saying it would be subjected to scientific validation.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force  on COVID 19, Boss Mustapha , who is also the Secretary to the Federal Government, also confirmed that President Buhari has handed over the consignment of the Madagascar syrup to the  PTF without any invoice attached.

It is expected that Nigeria may order for the commercial quantity of the  drug after it must have passed the clinical trial which President Buhari has ordered the National Agency for Foood, Drugs and Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to subject it .
