The number of COVID -19 cases worldwide has risen to more than six million even as Nigeria as at the weekend has recorded about 9,985 people that have been confirmed positive with the coronavirus infection , as the country had the highest single figure of 553 cases on Saturday night
As at the weekend, at least 6,000,867 coronavirus cases and 366,848 deaths have been recorded globally , with Europe as the continent hardest hit by the pandemic, with 2,135,170 cases and 177,595 deaths.
While the United States is the worst-hit country, with 1,760,740 cases and 103,472 deaths, the virus is however , now spreading fastest in Latin America, with more than 45,000 cases in the last 24 hours, for a total of 944,695 cases and 49,230 deaths.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control which confirmed 9,985 cases of the infection as at the weekend so far with 553 in one day noted that 2,856 patients have been discharged upon recovery while 273 associated deaths have been recorded.
According to NDDC,“On the 30th of May 2020, 553 new confirmed cases and 12 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. Till date, 9,855 cases have been confirmed, 2,856 cases have been discharged and 273 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory
“The 553 new cases are reported from 15 states – Lagos (378), FCT (52), Delta (23), Edo (22), Rivers (14), Ogun (13), Kaduna (12), Kano (9), Borno (7), Katsina (6), Jigawa (5), Oyo (5), Yobe (3), Plateau (3), Osun (1)’’.
