…As NANS also Kicks against Industrial Court’s Order

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has resolved  to  appeal the ruling of the National Industrial Court (NIC) which ordered the lecturers to call off their ongoing strike.

Justice Polycarp Hamman of the NIC had in his rulling on the case instituted by the Federal Government against ASUU, ordered the university lecturers to suspend its seven month strike embarked upon since February 14, 2022.

The counsel to the union, Femi Falana, disclosed this in an interview with Channels TV, thus giving credence to earlier suspicion that ASUU was unlikely to obey the court’s order, which many students considered to be unfair and one-sided.

ASUU’s President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke had also declined comments on the court’s order until the leadership of the union met and take its position on the judgement.

Following several failed attempts to resolve the impasse with the academic union, the Federal government through its lead counsel, James Igwe, filed an application for an interlocutory injunction, seeking an order of the court restraining ASUU from further continuing with the strike.

The court consequently granted the prayer.

But  the National Association  of Nigerian  Students (NANS) had however in its reaction opposed  the ruling of the  NIC for the lecturers to call off the strike , on the grounds that the order was unfair as it did not take into consideration the concerns of the lecturers for embarking on the strike in the first place.
