The Shippers’ Council  Executive Secretary/CEO, Hon. Emmanuel Jime has held fresh discussions with the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum , over the continual development of the Inland Dry Port(IDP) located in the State.

The meeting took place on Saturday the 24th of June, 2023 at the Governor’s office in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Though details of the meeting are not yet known , but it should not be unconnected with  continuation of work and the enhanced development of the IDP in that State, to improve the level of its transportation sector and the economy.

It will be recalled that  about  83 hectares of land has been allocated for  the proposed Maiduguri dry port, over seven years ago,  while the approval of the Federal Ministry of Transport  has been secured for it  , but the project  suffered setback due to the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Maiduguri Dry Port would have all the features of an international port similar to ports in Lagos, Port Harcourt and other parts of the country, when it is ready, while it  will take care of all import and distribution of goods from Nigeria to countries like Chad, Niger, Cameroon, Sudan and Central Africa.

The project is also expected to  create at least 5,000 jobs, apart from the economic benefits associated with Ports, while  there will be Customs, NDLEA, freight handlers, agents of all kinds presence  involved  in the Dry Port’s operations , when completed.
