
.Says Ship Registry Automation Will be Fast.
The new management of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA) led by Dr Dayo Mobereola as the Director General, has promised that it would focus attention on delivering on the key mandates of the agency.
The Director General made the pledge, during the interactive session, the Agency had with maritime stakeholders, at the Agency’s headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The session had in attendance, representations, from the shipping companies ,Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police, terminal operators, maritime lawyers the maritime media,ship repair yards, master mariners and former Director Generals of NIMASA, as well as leadership of other Maritime related associations and organisations among others.
A maritime expert , master mariner and former Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho who chaired the session, described Mobereola as a professional of international standing, who will dedicate himself to the growth of the sector, adding that the industry would record significant progress under the new NIMASA DG.
Other stakeholders advised Mobereola to focus on empowering Nigerian ship owners; developing indigenous capacity and disbursing the long-awaited Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF).
Dr Mobereola after listening to all the ideas assured that the challenges and solutions proffered by the stakeholders would form part of his strategy for a sustainable plan for the sector.
He said the management would be going back home to develop objectives, goals and strategies, and that it would be working together with the stakeholders because it has to move the industry forward in line with expectations of the President and the Minister of Marine and Blue economy.
Specifically , he said automation of the ship registry is one thing that has been spoken about, assuring that it would happen very quickly.
Mobereola pointed out that gender inclusion is another thing the management would seriously look into, saying that wherever there were shortfalls, the management would make the necessary amendments.
He was appointed as the NIMASA new DG, by President Bola Tinubu on March 13, 2024.
